| Background of Establishment |
With the entrance of the 21st century, software industry has become an important component of world economy, and exerts a significant influence over the all-round development of our nation. The State Council has constituted Policies to Encourage the Development of Software and IC industries and The Action Outline for Promoting Software Industry (2002-2005), and made the strategy of driving industrialization by informatization, to actively boost the development and the structural adjustment of the software industry.
The development of the industry has placed new request on the quantity, quality and the structure of talents. The Ministry of Education and the Development Planning Commission issued The Notice of the Ministry of Education and the National Development and Reform Commission about Ratifying the Establishment of Exemplary Software Institutes in Colleges and Universities and planned to choose to set software institutes among those excellent national colleges and universities, which aims at attempting to reform the educational system and realizing the frog-leap development of cultivating software talents.
As an time-honored institution of higher learning, Fudan has excellent experience of running a school and borne outstanding fruits of talent cultivation. She grasped the golden opportunity and reorganized the comprehensive multi-discipline advantages, actively made preparation for the establishment of the software institute, and meanwhile took it a key juncture to hasten the internationalization of operation and teaching reforms. After sufficient demonstration and arrangement, the plan of establishing Fudan Software School was confirmed by the Ministry of Education, and the opening ceremony was held on September 3, 2002, which announced the commencement of the historic mission of the said School.
